Marfan Syndrom

Marfan Syndrome

Marfan syndrom is a condition that usually affects the connective tissue in a human body. Marfan Syndrom usually affects anywhere from 1 in 10,000 or 20,000 people in all races, ethnic backgrounds.

People with Marfan Syndrome have symtoms that progress with age. They are usually very tall and thin. Their arms legs and fingers and toes often seem to not fit their body because they are so long and skinny.Their spine may be curved and their chest may stick out or be indented. Their bones are weak and dislocate easily. They also usually have a long and narrow face and their roof of their mouth may be higher than a normal persons causing their teeth to become crowded and close together.

In most of the cases of Marfan syndrome the disease is inherited or autosomal dominant. They usually have a 50% chance of passing it on to their children. The syndrome is caused by a defect in the gene that encodes the structure of fibrillin and the elastic fibers which is a major component in the connective tissue ( the name of the gene is called fibrillin-1 or FBN1.)

The syndrome is usually diagnosed by doing eye, heart, blood vessel, spine, and skeletal system checks on the patient.

Marfan syndrome can be treated but it all depends on the patient. Some patients may need just a regular check- up with the doctor but some may need surgeries and intense medication for their symtoms.

Many doctors and scientists are doing gene testing to help prevent and control Marfan Syndrome.

Yes I think that Pluto is a planet because if they called it a planet for so long then it is a planet in our solar system. Pluto is a sphere and spheres are planets. If it wasnt a sphere it would not have been a sphere.

An example of condensation nuclei is a the water(moisture) around a water bottle. Another example is your breath on glass, taking a cold pepsi out of the refrigerator, The ring left on the table after the cold beverage is taken away, the moisture on your hands after you put a cold can of drink down.

I chose hurricane Katrina. It was a category 4 but it was a category 5 at one time before it hit. Katrina kept growing from a tropical depression way out in the atlantic ocean then it started to grow and when it passed into the Gulf of Mexico it grew to a category 5 but right when it was about to hit land it downsized to a category 4 then to a category 3. Katrina is responsible for about 1,200 deaths and about 75 billion dollers in damage.

1.The four types of air masses are; mT which stands for maritime tropical, mP which stands for maritime Polar, cP which stands for continental polar, cT which stands for continental tropical.
2.The maritime tropical is the most likely to bring hurricanes due to it is near the equator and has the warm waters and Gulf Stream to help it move along towards the United States.
3.The continental tropical is most likely to bring a drought because it is over land and its name cT means Dry and warm.
4.The maritime polar is most likely to bring the lake-effect snowstorms; first of all it means wet and cold and snow is made out of water.
5.Arctic and Highland; the arctic air masses is in northern Canada, it has the same characteristics of polar air except it is colder and has lower dew points. highland air masses occurs in regions with large elevation changes over a short distance, they can promote dryness in the interior of the highland climate.
